Debt Collectors Lurking in Hospital Waiting Rooms?

The bottom line, though, is that federal and, in many cases, state laws give consumers certain rights when it comes to debt collection activities. And the only way to protect your rights is to know what rights you have and what activities violate those rights.

Another excellent source of information about debt collection laws is the FTC website which has gathered several good resources about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act on one page here.

If you think you have been harassed by a creditor or collection agent who has violated the provisions of state or federal law, don’t hesitate to speak to an attorney who has experience handling such claims. In some cases, there are time limits and procedural requirements which might apply to your situation.
